Sean “Diddy” Combs founded Bad Boy Records in 1993. He helped lift a number of artists to success, but some grew to resent them because of their publishing deals. Several artists complained about the unfairness of their contracts. Rapper Mase was so frustrated that he confronted Diddy during a radio interview and asked to be let out of his contract. He was shocked when Diddy complied, noting that he rarely saw him do good things.

While Diddy was being interviewed on an Atlanta radio station, Mase arrived unannounced and asked to be let out of his contract. During a break, they stepped away from microphones, where Diddy signed the document.

“Just be clear [Mase] has the freedom to do whatever he want to do,” Diddy said when he was back on air, per Xxl Magazine. “People…
