Makeup artist reveals the BIGGEST beauty mistake you are making

A makeup artist has revealed the biggest mistake that people are making – but thankfully, there’s an easy fix.

The important information was shared in a new video posted to TikTok by Canada-based makeup artist Selena Marchand, who has been working as a professional for the past 16 years.

She often takes to the social media app to share her experiences working as a makeup artist, alongside her various tips and tricks.

This time was no different as she explained that there was a makeup mistake many are making that was ‘bothering’ her – wrapping black eyeliner under your eye.

‘I get it, you want your eyes to pop, but wrapping them in black eyeliner isn’t doing it,’ Marchand shared.

In the video, she included a clip of the look she was referencing, with black eyeliner smudged all around the bottom of her lower lash line.

But according to Marchand, there’s a very easy way to correct this.

‘Instead, we’re gonna use chocolate brown [eyeliner], and we’re not wrapping it all the way around,’ she explained.

‘Look at me, we’re only putting it on the top lash line, and we’re gonna make it as small as humanly possible,’ she instructed.

She then began to demonstrate how to put on the eyeliner correctly, as she moved it in ‘tiny little flicks’ on top of the lash line.

‘Now, do you see how pretty this is?’ she said once it was done, joking that black eyeliner was ‘2016’ and brown was ‘2025.’

‘Stop wrapping your eyes in black eyeliner,’ the makeup artist concluded.

In the comments section of her video, it seemed like many users agreed with her makeup take.

‘The amount of people who still do that is driving me insane. Don’t they own a mirror???’ one person wrote.

Another agreed, ‘YES THANK YOU SOMEONE HAD TO SAY IT.’

‘Black eyeliner was my bestie in 2008. I looked back, and it just made my eyes smaller. Brown liner is my favorite,’ someone else typed.

This isn’t the first time that Marchand has shared a crucial makeup tip with viewers.

Last year, she revealed that you are probably putting on your foundation incorrectly, too.

‘For foundation, if you choose the wrong foundation, it’s going to look absolutely horrible on your skin,’ Marchand began at the time.

‘So what I suggest is to choose the opposite of your skin type. If you’re dry, you want to choose a really dewy foundation,’ she explained.

Marchand told viewers that the foundation she chose was one that had a bit of a sheen to it, because she has dry skin.

However, on the other hand, the makeup artist instructed that if you have oily skin, you want to go for a foundation that has a matte finish to it.

‘If you’re dry and you choose a matte foundation, it’s not going to be good,’ Marchand furthered.

‘And if you’re oily, and you’re using something with shimmer in it, you’re going to feel like a little greaseball.’
