Khembi Maynard shared her life in paintings at an exhibition held at Cannock Library on March 25, with each painting exploring her life experiences as a visually impaired person.

Khembi was born with optic atrophy, a condition characterised by damage to the optic nerve which ultimately leads to vision loss, and was diagnosed when she was four-years-old.

The 31-year-old says, unlike a regular sighted person who can merely glance at something and take in information, it takes her a lot longer to observe and comprehend.

Despite this, she went to Birmingham City University to study fine art, inspired by the likes of Frida Kahlo, Kara Walker and Faith Ringgold.
