The Grade II listed building is situated in a prime location on Market Square in the heart of Petworth, West Sussex.

The property is currently leased by the fine art dealer Rountree Tryon Galleries.

RH & RW Clutton, the agents handling the sale, highlight the property’s “lovely” character and its “prominent position” in the market town’s central retail area.

The agents note: “This is very rare retail unit, situated in a prominent position in the main Market Square in Petworth.

“It is being offered as an investment, as the property is currently occupied by art dealers Rountree Tryon.”

Petworth, located 14 miles north of Chichester, is known for its art galleries, antique dealers, and independent retailers.

The town also attracts significant tourist footfall, with visitors drawn to Petworth House and the nearby South Downs.

Rountree Tryon Galleries, which has operated in Petworth since 2016, is a renowned art dealer.

It specialises in maritime, wildlife, sporting, and topographical art from the eighteenth century to the present day.

Rountree Tryon Galleries was formed by a merger between the Tryon Gallery and Rountree Fine Art in 2013. They have another location in London.

The gallery is owned by Jamie Rountree, who founded Rountree Fine Art in 2009 after a decade-long career at auction houses Christie’s and Bonhams.

The current lease for the Petworth site runs until October 16, 2026, and it is understood that the gallery will continue operating as normal regardless of a sale.

According to the listing, the current rateable value of the property is £14,000, with the gross amount payable for 2024/25 being £6,483.88.

Potential buyers are advised to make their own enquiries to Chichester District Council regarding eligibility for small business rates relief.

RH & RW Clutton also note that the ground floor shop is well-serviced, with mains electricity, water, and drainage connected.

In their property listing, the agents emphasise the property’s attraction as a freehold retail investment.

They said: “This is a rare investment opportunity – a retail unit, situated in a lovely Grade II listed building, in a prominent position in the main Market Square in Petworth.”
