Westhoughton stationmaster turned travel into an art form

Mr S E Jones brightened up the platform with crayon and pastel sketches which he illustrated the various excursions and trips available to passengers in 1949.

A keen amateur artist, Mr Jones often gave away his paintings and drawings as presents.

It’s fascinating to see the cost of excursions on offer – a trip to Llandudno was 17/5 and an Anglesey day cruise 19/11.
