The showcase is the flagship event of the Sunday Best platform, founded by local artist and performance coach, Kupid the King. Described by BBC 1Xtra’s Theo Johnson as a “tastemaker in the industry,” Kupid’s mission is to provide a tangible, professional pathway for emerging talent in the Midlands.

“As an artist myself, I saw the hurdles that emerging talent in Wolves faced,” says Kupid. “Sunday Best Artist Platform was created to change that. The national recognition is bless, but my real goal is to build a platform that artists from Wolves can be proud of.”

The platform’s 7-Stage Artist Pathway is already showing remarkable results. A recent success story is the Wolverhampton duo Saishaye. In just three weeks, the students of Amy G’s Music School went from their first open mic performance to performing on a curated stage at Junction Festival, they have embraced every opportunity thrown at them and smashed it when given the opportunity to perform with a live band at the NO.WAVs at SPACE.WLV.

Another example is the artist GhostedN1. After consistently performing at the open mics, he was booked through The Industry Spot for a paid performance at BANK, and Kupid personally selected his track to be featured on the BBC Radio 1Xtra Introducing show.

“It’s all proof that the pathway works,” Kupid added (while also speaking about the fact that he has built this with no financial support or official funding), “To any local artist sitting on their talent, the message is simple: come through, sign up, we set the stage and you light it.” This is a platform built by artists, for artists.

The relaunch of THE BUMP. at Slug & Lettuce on Wednesday, 30 July, will feature a special performance from Divine Frequency, the new choir from acclaimed vocal coach Priscilla Cameron, to mark their official debut. As well as sets all evening from Sunday Best Resident DJ, SuperBamz.
