Friends and family, including her daughter who has travelled in from Australia, were expected to celebrate her birthday alongside her.

Born in Staffordshire, Mollie has lived in Cornwall for more than 40 years.

“I was 60 when I came down here with my husband and we got this little bungalow and we’ve loved it ever since,” she said.

As she became older and less able to leave the house, Mrs Silver said she tended to spend time thinking about when she was younger.

“They tell me I’m an old person and I have to go along with that,” she said.

“I’m frustrated because I can’t do the things I used to do, but I don’t feel like an old person.”
