JAMESTOWN – Entries are sought for the Jamestown Fine Arts Association’s 61st Annual Art Show, said Cole Carpenter, director of exhibits and education for The Arts Center.
The show opens on Oct. 23. The opening reception is Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6-8 p.m., he said.
“It’s free and open to the community,” Carpenter said.
The show, which runs from Oct. 23-Dec. 13, will be juried by Raechel Cook.
“Unlike a traditional jury where she is looking at all of the entries and choosing what goes into the show, we accept any entry that gets submitted,” Carpenter said. “There is a fee to that submission and then she goes through all of those entries and picks the Best of Show as well as Juror’s Choice, and then we also have a People’s Choice category.”
Cook received a Master of Fine Arts in textiles from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Arts in visual art from the University of Northern Colorado. She is associate curator of academic programming at the Weatherspoon Arts Museum. Cook works with faculty, staff and students from all academic disciplines to facilitate meaning art encounters, according to information provided by The Arts Center. She also served as curator of academic engagement at the University of Wyoming Art Museum, Laramie, Wyoming.

People who wish to enter the art show may submit applications until Oct. 3, Carpenter said. There is an online format available on The Arts Center’s website,
, and paper copies can be downloaded from the website or picked up at The Arts Center. The form includes guidelines for submitting entries, Carpenter said.
The artwork for the show must be turned into The Arts Center by Oct. 18.
This is Carpenter’s first year coordinating the show. He joined the staff of The Arts Center in 2024, in time to help return the works from last year’s art show, he said.
“When I first got here, I wasn’t sure what kind of work I would see in the community, what kind of themes would be recurring,” he said. “I had previously come from a rural academic museum. I was really surprised by … the amount and depth of work and the variety of work that’s in this area. So I really encourage people to send in whatever medium they enjoy working in the most, whether that’s glass blowing, ceramics, painting, printmaking, drawing, mixed medium, collage, anything like that. I think the wider range of medium and topics are the most interesting.”
The entry fee is $30 per piece. All ages are welcome to apply for the show. Students in grades K-12 or under age 18 may enter up to three pieces at no cost. Adults may also submit up to three pieces (entry fee applies to each entry).
Prizes will be $100 for Best in Show, $50 for Juror’s Choice awards in 2D Media, 3D Media and Youth categories, and $50 for People’s Choice (given at the end of the exhibition).
