UK singer-songwriter Olivia Dean has delivered a big result with her second album, The Art Of Loving (Capitol).

The Music Week cover star has topped 50,000 week one units at the albums chart summit. Following a run of hits, Dean has also ascended to the singles chart summit with Man I Need alongside two other Top 10 entries.

As revealed in Alan Jones’ charts analysis, Olivia Dean is the first female artist ever to land her first No.1 single and No.1 album in the same week.

The blockbuster week for Olivia Dean means that she has become the first British solo female artist to claim the UK’s No.1 album and single simultaneously since Adele in 2021. Ellie Goulding also managed a chart double in 2023, although that included collaborator Calvin Harris.

Dean has also achieved the biggest opening week for a British female artist since Adele, again in 2021. The Art Of Loving had the fifth biggest opening week of the year so far behind Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, Sabrina Carpenter and Sam Fender.

The albums and single results help Polydor Label Group to a clean sweep as No.1 across the Top 75 chart shares for singles, artist albums and all albums. Polydor is also No.1 label group for the total market share on artist album sales and all album sales. Across all the rankings for combined sales and streams (AES), it was No.2 for artist albums and all albums.

Olivia continues to show the world what a truly special artist she is

Jo Charrington

Jo Charrington, president of Capitol Records UK, said: “This is an exceptional achievement for Olivia and we couldn’t be happier for her. Her journey to this moment speaks for itself; already having secured three concurrent Top 10 singles, selling out arenas across the UK, Europe and Australia, and currently promoting The Art Of Loving in the US – Olivia continues to show the world what a truly special artist she is.”

The Art Of Loving’s week one total of 52,366 units is comprised of 31,060 physical copies, 1,182 downloads and 20,124 sales-equivalent streams.

Consumption for Man I Need was up 14.4% week-on-week as it moved 2-1 with 76,820 units – the highest for a No.1 single so far this year. Man I Need had previously spent five consecutive weeks at No.2. As the most streamed track of the week, it deposed the K-pop Demon Hunters smash Golden.

Also in the Top 10, Nice To Each Other climbed four places to No.4 with consumption up 30.6% week-on-week (40,613 units), and Dean had a new entry with So Easy (To Fall In Love) at No.9 (28,881 units).

Under chart rules, those are her three permitted entries as a primary artist, but Dean also has a hit with Sam Fender collaboration at No.13 (20,444 units). Based on raw streaming data, she would have had a further 11 singles in the Top 50.
