Art Works Gallery in downtown Grass Valley is celebrating its Sweet Sixteen with a festive anniversary party on Saturday, May 16, marking sixteen vibrant years on Mill Street. The celebration will include hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.—a thank-you to the community that has supported the gallery and its artists over the years.
Two special window displays will highlight the occasion. One features artwork inspired by the theme “Sweet Sixteen,” while the second celebrates “The Year of the Fire Horse,” showcasing dynamic and expressive pieces created especially for the event. Among the featured works, visitors will find imaginative interpretations of the themes, including a striking Fire Horse painting and a whimsical mosaic birthday cake sculpture with 16 candles, a beautiful scarf of 16 colors along with many other one-of-a-kind creations by gallery artists. Guests are invited to meet the artists and join in celebrating sixteen creative years.
Owned and operated by 33 local artists, Art Works Gallery has been a cornerstone of the Grass Valley arts community for sixteen years, offering an ever-changing collection of fine art, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, photography, and more.
In addition to the anniversary celebration, Art Works Gallery continues its popular Second Saturday series on May 9 from 1–3 p.m., featuring live artist demonstrations. Artist Vilina Hutter will demonstrate the ancient art of cloisonné—one of the oldest jewelry-making techniques in the world—building delicate designs with fine silver wire and layers of kiln-fired enamel. Gourd artist Bill Wilson will demonstrate carving negative space using contrasting textures, sharing how he transforms natural gourds into intricate works of art through carving, wood burning, and color.
The public is warmly invited to attend both events, enjoy the art, and experience the creative spirit of Art Works Gallery.
