A longtime New York art dealer was charged with defrauding clients and investors of more than $2 million in supposed deals involving Georgia O’Keeffe and John Singer Sargent works.

Catherine Dail, who specializes in 19th and 20th century American artwork, misappropriated the proceeds from the sale of paintings by O’Keeffe and others, according to an indictment unsealed Thursday by Manhattan federal prosecutors. She also allegedly used for personal expenses funds investors believed were going toward the purchase of works by Sargent and Robert Motherwell.
