Kolkata Creator Builds an Independent Fine Art Ecosystem Through FOI Studios

Kolkata, India: Sourish Mukherjee is developing a multi-platform visual art ecosystem through FOI Studios, bringing together fine art photography, original music, behind-the-scenes filmmaking and digital archive management under a single creative identity.

At the centre of the ecosystem is FOI Boudoir Magazine, a publication focused on cinematic photography and stylised visual storytelling. Rather than treating photography as standalone imagery, the platform presents each project as part of a larger narrative built through lighting, production design, music and atmosphere.

Alongside the magazine, Mukherjee uses FOI.ONE to share project previews, artwork updates, release announcements and access to archive collections directly with followers. The move reflects a broader shift among independent creators who are increasingly building dedicated digital platforms instead of relying entirely on social media visibility.

The wider FOI ecosystem also includes FOIverse, a platform dedicated to trailers, production breakdowns, BTS videos and documentation of the creative process behind individual projects.

A Cinematic Approach to Fine Art Photography

Mukherjee’s work sits within a growing segment of Indian fine art photography that places equal importance on visual presentation and production design. Many FOI projects are built through detailed pre-production involving concept development, lighting direction, wardrobe planning, set styling and post-production design.

The resulting imagery often draws from cinematic influences, using practical lighting, shadow-heavy compositions, antique interiors and carefully structured colour palettes to create a strong sense of mood and narrative.

Rather than positioning releases as isolated shoots, FOI presents them as long-form visual collections designed to function as part of a larger archive of work.

Music as Part of the Visual Narrative

A defining aspect of the FOI model is the integration of original music into visual releases.

Through FOI Music, Mukherjee develops soundtracks tied to specific magazine issues and photography projects. The music is intended to accompany the viewing experience, extending the atmosphere and emotional tone of each collection.

This approach reflects a growing trend among multimedia creators who are combining visual art, sound design and cinematic storytelling into unified digital experiences rather than treating them as separate formats.

Using Technology to Manage Creative Archives

Another component of the ecosystem is SOUR-X, an internal system developed to support archive organisation, workflow management and premium access control.

As FOI’s digital archive has expanded to include photography collections, music releases, BTS content and magazine issues, the system has been used to manage member access, content organisation and delivery workflows.

The inclusion of AI-supported systems reflects how independent creative platforms are increasingly adopting technology infrastructure traditionally associated with larger media businesses.

Building Beyond Social Platforms

Mukherjee’s emphasis on dedicated digital platforms such as FOI.ONE comes at a time when many independent creators are reconsidering long term dependence on algorithm-driven social platforms.

Instead of using social media as the primary destination, FOI positions it more as a discovery layer while directing audiences toward dedicated websites and membership-based access systems.

FOIverse, meanwhile, functions as a public-facing documentation platform focused on process-oriented content including lighting setups, production notes, project trailers and filmmaking breakdowns.

For photography enthusiasts and visual art followers, the platform offers insight into the technical and creative decisions behind each release.

Balancing Art, Access and Platform Standards

As the platform grows, FOI has also placed emphasis on archive management, copyright protection, access control and platform compliance. Public-facing material is designed to remain platform compliant, while premium collections are distributed through controlled membership systems.

That balance between artistic presentation, audience access and digital platform policy has become increasingly important for independent visual creators operating subscription and archive-based models online.

A Broader Shift in Independent Publishing

FOI Studios reflects a wider movement in independent digital publishing where creators are combining photography, music, film, memberships and technology into self-contained media ecosystems.

While rooted in Kolkata, Mukherjee’s work is aimed at a global audience interested in cinematic photography, independent visual culture and collector-focused digital art.

The FOI structure spanning magazine publishing, soundtrack releases, BTS filmmaking and archive access illustrates how independent creators are increasingly approaching art not only as creative output, but also as long-term intellectual property and platform building.

Through FOI.ONE and FOIverse, Mukherjee continues expanding the project beyond traditional social media distribution, positioning FOI Studios as an evolving independent visual art platform built around direct audience engagement and multimedia storytelling.
