Carson High School (CHS) hosted its Third Annual Art Expo last night, showcasing the talents of its student artists in photography, drawing, painting and ceramics. Additionally, several Visual Arts students were recognized for earning a Fine Arts endorsement and seal for their diplomas and golden cords for graduation. Those endorsements also include Performing Arts students, awarded at the Senior Showcase, Tuesday, May 5.

Carson High seniors who earned a Fine Arts seal last night for Visual Arts include Adolfo Arreola, Sylis Chalmers, Chloe Clark, Gabriel Crounk, Madison Crozier, Khia Dunbar, Llermy Hernandez, Madelyn Kennedy, Paityn Madera, Izzabelle Marriott, Cruz Marquez Mariscal, Zoey McMenamy, Clare Mulvihill, Charlotte Roberts, Annabellen Sanchez and Mabel Wacker.

This year’s Art Expo included a special addition, spearheaded by ceramics teacher Alisa Kuniya, who received a grant from the Carson City Schools Foundation. A jury made up of the superintendent, chief academic officer, an art teacher and a representative from the Carson City Schools Foundation selected eight pieces from the expo to purchase for $100 each. The artwork will be displayed at the Carson City School District office.
In addition to viewing and appreciating the artwork, attendees at the Expo had the opportunity to hear from graduating seniors who offered short presentations, sharing their inspiration and process behind their pieces.
Following the expo, students and employees will have the chance to view the artwork during school hours all next week. This opportunity allows for the entire school community to come together and celebrate the creativity and talent of the young artists.
The Art Expo would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the art teachers at Carson High School, including Mrs. Patricia Bean at the CHS Silver Campus, Mrs. Alisa Kuniya, Mrs. Karen McCraw, Mr. Matt Theilen and Mrs. Adriane Wacker. Additionally, Performing Arts teachers include Ms. Darby Beckwith, Mr. Brian Fox, Mr. Nicolas Jacques and Mr. Andrew Sonnemaker. Their guidance and support have helped to nurture and develop the artistic abilities of their students.
