There will be more than 40 new pieces of street art as part of a new £85k investment across towns in Co Antrim.

The drive announced by Gordon Lyons will seek to improve the visual appeal of town centres and “celebrate local identity and engage communities through creative expression in Ballymena, Larne and Carrickfergus.

The Department for Communities said dozens of new public artworks will be delivered across the borough as part of the street art project.

They confirmed this will include features on the Larne underpass, Carrickfergus Castle subway and more murals in Ballymena town centre.

A £76,500 contribution was made by the DfC for the project, while £8,500 was invested by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

“I am pleased to support this exciting initiative. It aligns with my department’s vision of building inclusive, vibrant places where people want to live, work and visit,” said Mr Lyons.

“Public art is a powerful tool for regeneration and this project will leave a lasting legacy across Mid and East Antrim.”

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Jackson Minford added: “This renewed investment in street art is a celebration of our people and places.

“These artworks will not only bring our town centres to life but also reflect the unique stories and spirit of our communities. We are proud to support projects that foster creativity and connection across Mid and East Antrim.”
