Alexandra Burke won the 2008 series of The X Factor and went onto have the best-selling X Factor winner’s single ever with her cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, the UK Christmas Number 1 2008.
Hallelujah was the first of Alexandra Burke’s three Number 1 singles, and earned the title of the first ever UK million seller by a British female artist. It quickly became the best-selling single of 2008 with just two weeks of sales logged, as well as the most downloaded Christmas Number 1 of all time. 2008 was the first time that downloads of the Christmas Number 1 exceeded CD sales.
She had a further two chart toppers on the Official Singles Chart – Bad Boys and Start Without You – and secured a Number 1 debut album with Overcome.
