Call for Local Artists: Bring Lismore Library to Life with Your Art!

Are you a local artist with a passion for storytelling and creativity? Lismore City Council is excited to invite you to help transform our newly refurbished Lismore Library into a vibrant, welcoming community space. We are looking for a local artists or a collaboration of artists to design and deliver stunning murals and art installations that will inspire and connect with our community.

About the Project

Lismore Library is more than just a place for books—it’s a hub for learning, creativity, and community gatherings. As part of its refurbishment, we want to fill the space with artwork that tells the story of Lismore, celebrates our unique environment, and highlights the strength of our community. From welcoming murals to an inspiring stairwell installation, your art could be at the heart of this transformation.

We’re seeking two large murals and an art installation to be showcased in key areas of the library. Your designs will not only beautify the space but also share meaningful stories of our community’s strength and unity, following the 2022 floods.

Please note that all artwork must be submitted in digital format, as it will be applied as vinyl decals on the library’s walls.

Scope of Expression Of Interest

  • Mural 1: The Welcome Wall
Create a vibrant mural for the curved wall at the main entrance (Magellan Street). This artwork will greet visitors and help guide them to key areas like the information desk, book return, elevator, and stairs. Think of it as a visual map that’s both practical and welcoming.

  • Mural 2: The Community Wall
This mural will be on the wall by the elevator at the Quad entrance. It’s the perfect spot to capture the essence of library life—story times, book clubs, author events, and community gatherings. Your design should reflect the warmth and energy that the library brings to Lismore.
  • Stairwell Art Installation: Birds of Hope
We’re looking for a creative art installation that tells a story as people move through the library. The design will feature local native birds in flight, carrying messages of hope and support that were sent by our community after the 2022 floods. These birds and messages will wind their way through the stairwell, creating a unique, uplifting experience for visitors.
