This exhibition on 2/3 November highlights Katrina’s evolution from a graphite and coloured pencil artist to a creator of vibrant, expressive works. It offers a unique opportunity for visitors to engage with her artistic journey and experience her bold, colourful creations.

Based in North Yorkshire, Katrina Thompson’s work blends her background as an architectural technologist, with a passion for detail, and her love of bold colour. Over the past year she has been developing her skills in acrylic and mixed media, creating pieces that are heavily influenced by Contemporary Spanish art, Colour Field painting, and Abstract Expressionism. These influences can be felt in the dynamic energy present in her work.

“I’m excited to finally share this collection,” says Katrina.  “My goal is to create works that stimulate both the eye and the imagination, blending vibrant colours with textures to provoke a strong emotional response. Each piece reflects my fascination with colour theory and my passion for breaking the boundaries of traditional genres.”

Visitors will experience her distinctive style, which features impasto palette knife strokes and layers of colour designed to evoke movement and depth. Her work, marked by rich textures and bold tones, aims to stimulate the eye and engage the imagination.

The exhibition is on display 2 (10am-6pm) and 3 (10am-5pm) November 2024 at Ilkley Arts Studio in Castle Yard near the Manor House. Entry is free.
