Makeup artist slain in Virginia Square shooting remembered as ‘everyone’s friend’

A longtime makeup artist is being remembered for her friendship and caring nature after her shooting death in Virginia Square earlier this week.

Renee Baldwin, a popular makeup artist at several D.C.-area news studios, was fatally shot Sunday at an apartment building on Fairfax Drive, police said.

Baldwin later died after being transported to a local hospital. Her son, Logan Chrisinger, has been charged with her murder.

The 57-year-old had worked with ABC News and on ESPN’s “Pardon The Interruption” and “Around the Horn.” At the time of her death, Baldwin worked primarily with Newsmax’s D.C. bureau, where she had been for the past few years.

Newsmax host Greta Van Susteren, speaking on-air Tuesday, remembered Baldwin as somebody who was easy to have a conversation with and was well-liked by both network regulars and guests.

“Talking, laughing, having the casual conversation you’d have with a friend,” Van Susteren said. “And that’s because Renee was everyone’s friend. Just 100% decent, not a mean bone in her body.”

On last night’s broadcast, @greta eulogized Newsmax and ESPN make-up artist Renee Baldwin, who was shot to death in her home on Sunday.

Many paid homage to Baldwin on social media.

Newsmax’s Marisela Ramirez spoke of the comfort that Baldwin provided to those in her chair, and how she “genuinely cared” about others.

Ameshia Cross, a Democratic Party strategist who regularly appeared on The Hill’s “Rising,” echoed Ramirez, saying that Baldwin would provide advice and support to anybody who needed it.

Others, like Newsmax guest Christopher Johnson, noted that Baldwin regularly talked about her family and her son — the man who has been charged with her murder.

Chrisinger, 27, faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said.

According to scanner traffic, Chrisinger described the incident as a suicide attempt to a 911 dispatcher, claiming that he heard a gunshot coming from the room where Baldwin was located. Officers were dispatched around 8:30 a.m. and, after an initial investigation, police later identified the incident as a “domestic-related homicide.”

Chrisinger is scheduled to appear in Arlington Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 15, according to online records.
