Persimmon Homes, who has a development on Sedgeley Road West in Coseley, has joined forces with local MP Antonia Bance to uncover local talent.

The competition is open to all students at schools and colleges across the Borough who are being encouraged to come forward with their ideas.

The theme for the competition is based on the history of the site – the former Bean Motor Car Factory and the cars produced by A. Harper and Son’s, in particular the famous ‘Tipton Thunderbolt’ car. Artists are being asked to consider the scale of their design as it will be displayed on a retaining wall along Birmingham New Road, and will remain for the lifetime of the development.

Commenting on the competition, Antonia Bance MP said: “I’m pleased to support this brilliant competition, which celebrates both the history of Tipton and the incredible artistic talent within our local schools and colleges. This initiative is a great way to inspire our young people to explore their creativity while shining a light on a fascinating chapter of our local heritage.”

Nick Wilkins, Technical Director at Persimmon Homes said: “As part of our planning condition at our site in Coseley we agreed to display some public art that would reflect the history of the former site. We thought it would be a fun idea to run this as a competition for local people to share their thoughts and ideas. We’re really excited to see the entries and look forward to choosing a winner.”

The winning design will be chosen by a judging panel made up of Antonia Bance MP, a representative from Persimmon Homes and a local artist.

The winning design will be reproduced and permanently displayed at the site.

Entries are now open and can be dropped off at Persimmon Homes Sales Office at the Coseley site, with name and contact details clearly marked.
