ALPENA — Thunder Bay Arts Council presents the 48th Art on the Bay open-air fine art and craft show Saturday and Sunday at Bay View Park in Alpena.

The annual event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, featuring over 100 artists and artisans from Michigan and all over the U.S.

Fine art items in a wide variety of mediums will be on display and for sale, and all the vendors have been juried in to ensure that they are offering high-quality handcrafted items.

“We normally have about 3,000 people come through during the two-day show,” said Clint Kendziorski, first vice president of Thunder Bay Arts Council. “And all of the work is juried by a committee of six people that look through it. We require a picture of people actually making their work, and some examples of their work.”

Items include woodworking, metalworking, ceramics, photography, painting, jewelry, textiles, baskets, leather, and much more.

“We have pretty much anything you can think of,” Kendziorski said.

In addition to the many fine handcrafted items for sale, there will be a variety of concessions available, including Tastes of Thailand, Pretty Little Pancakes, Dog House Dogs, Zoo’s Tasty Eatz, as well as fudge, smoothies, kettle corn, candied nuts, and more.

Kendziorski said Michelle Miller, TBAC office administrator, has been instrumental in organizing Art on the Bay, which has been held every year except for 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The vendors always reserve for the next year,” Kendziorski said. “They always tell us that Alpena is one of their better shows.”

He added that the weather is supposed to be good this weekend, according to a weather app on his phone.

The AccuWeather forecast predicts temps in the mid to upper 70s, with a chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, but likely clearing quickly for a pleasant Sunday.
