GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -The Grand Junction Art Center hosted a Native American Fine Art Market this weekend.

It featured art by Ute, Navajo and other local tribes. Vendors offered weavings, jewelry and more handmade items.

“Every culture has artistic expression and to learn more about that culture, it really is useful to look into how they express their artistic talents and tell their stories within an artistic mean,” said Peter Booth, Director of Advancement of Grand Junction Art Center.

The Western Slope Native American Resource Center was also present, intending to spread cultural awareness and understanding.

“We do cultural sensitivity training with some organizations here in town, just letting them know what to expect while working with Native Americans because it can be a little different,” said Vee Gallegos, Indigenous Advocate for the Western Slope Native American Resource Center.

The Art Center will have an exhibit highlighting the history and evolution of Navajo weaving until mid-November.
