Join BAIA as we present the D.C Installation of the Atlanta Fine Art Print Fair October 11-13th. Its a rare conversation with two masterful printmakers from the DC area, Percy Martin and Ed McCluney, Moderated by Career Artist, Founder and CEO of Black Art In America Najee Dorsey. Join us from 2-4pm as we unpack the rich tradition of printmaking as a medium for artistic expression.
Percy Martin: Percy Martin, an esteemed artist and educator, has been a vital part of the D.C. arts community since 1947. Known for his allegorical printmaking, Martin explores the life and culture of an imaginary Bushmen people, with works included in such prestigious collections as the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Najee Dorsey: Born in Arkansas, on January 26, 1973 and now residing in Atlanta, Georgia, Najee Dorsey; visual artist, gallerist, producer, CEO and founder of Black Art In America is known for embracing Southern roots in his works and relaying on canvas stories untold but not forgotten of the African American life. His artworks have been featured in exhibitions at the Arnika Dawkins Gallery, The Columbus Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, David C. Driskell Center, the Charles H. Wright Museum; Syracuse University; the African American Museum in Dallas, TX; Houston Museum of African American Culture, the Marietta Museum of Art, FL; Clark Atlanta University Museum, the University of Arkansas Library and Liberty Bank Trust Company in New Orleans, LA. Dorsey has been featured in articles for the ARTnews and the Forbes, “PRIZM Awakens Mighty Overdue Dialogue at Miami Art Week Fair Dedicated to African and African Diaspora Artist” written by Natasha Gural.
Ed McCluney: Edward McCluney has been a successful teacher, printmaker, and artistic painter since earning his MFA degree in painting and printmaking from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1969. That year he was instrumental in integrating the National Virginia Beach Art Show along with his mentor, A.B. Jackson. Since then, he has created and exhibited hundreds of prints, paintings, and drawings.In addition to creating a large body of work, he has spent as much of his life as a professional educator, including teaching at the following institutions: Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, Ma; Santa Reparata Studio, Florence, Italy; Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (Technical instructor); and Corcoran College of Art, Washington, DC. For more than 35 years he has been teaching teachers to teach, and many students to create, and to become artists in their own rights. He is currently teaching at the Art League School in Alexandria Va.
