Titled “Let the Light In”, Johnny Depp‘s latest art collection features two intimate watercolours from the early 2000s, when he was living at Le Hameau, his idyllic estate in the South of France, with then-partner Vanessa Paradis and their children, Lily-Rose and Jack.

The first piece, “A Rose Is a Rose, Is a Rose”, is a delicate painting of a flower that symbolises Lily-Rose.

“On Valentine’s Day and birthdays he used to give Vanessa, his ex-wife and his daughter Lily Rose, instead of giving them a rose or buying a rose or giving them an actual flower, he would paint one,” explained Castle Fine Art’s spokesperson Frankie Washington.

The second of the two paintings is called “Add the Light”, and it’s a self-portrait of the Hollywood actor, inspired by advice he received from fellow artists. “One of them said to him, you know, just paint what’s there, paint the light and when everything else falls away, you know, that’s what’s left, I think that’s a really nice sentiment,” revealed Washington.

While all of Depp’s art is personal to his own life, Washington says these two pieces “really top that,” capturing a moment when Depp was “super happy” and surrounded by loved ones.

Both paintings are currently on sale via Castle Fine Art’s official website.
