The Fine Arts Fiesta invites art and music lovers to visit the nonprofit’s new headquarters in Downtown Wilkes-Barre and enjoy its opening gallery exhibit, “Faces of Music,” featuring the work of noted music photographer Jim Gavenus.
The grand opening will include a meet-the-artist event from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the organization’s new home at 60 Public Square.
Gavenus is an award-winning, internationally recognized editorial photographer.
The exhibit will take viewers on a photographic journey of performances and intimate backstage moments featuring popular, nationally recognized entertainers. The collection, which include photos of the Avett Brothers, John Oates, Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt and many more, are all Gavenus’ work in the world of music spanning many years and genres.

Gavenus’ work in the music industry has appeared in work for Sony Music, Columbia Records, Lost Highway Records, Merlefest, Farm Aid and numerous publications. His work was featured on the 55th Annual Grammy Awards and can be found in the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame. He routinely works with studios, magazines, festivals and numerous Hall of Fame musicians.
“Faces in Music” will be open to the public at the Fine Arts Fiesta Headquarters, frm 4 to 7 p.m., on several additional dates over the coming weeks: Aug. 23, 29 and 30, and Sept. 6.
The Fine Arts Fiesta is an annual four-day festival in May on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre featuring two professionally presented juried visual art exhibitions including works of all forms of media and photography by regional adult and student artists, as well as exhibits by community arts groups and organizations.
Children are entertained for free with puppet shows, face painting, a strolling mime, music, a clown, many credible make-and-take opportunities, storytelling and visits with Mother Goose, as well family interactive arts-and-crafts experiences.
Visitors can browse and shop the Yellow Zinnia Artists’ Market with over 40 participants exhibiting, demonstrating and selling their arts and crafts. Performing arts organizations and groups as well as some popular bands perform on the main stage throughout the festival, and a large food court has a wide variety of offerings.
