It’s no surprise that wedding prices are on the rise when it comes to everything from venues to gowns, but there’s one price that has truly shocked people – makeup.

After one bride reached out to Kylie Jenner‘s makeup artist, they were left aghast by her high price point for a day of glam.

Commenters quickly realized the makeup artist offering eye-watering costs was Mary Phillips, who’s known for doing glam for stars including Jennifer Lopez, Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and Scarlett Johansson.

She even has her own famed routine – the ‘Mary Phillips technique,’ or underpainting, which took off on social media for its unique approach to contouring.

A content creator with the username Emily From Kansas shared a viral TikTok video and said ‘every aspect of a wedding is so outrageously expensive.’

She then said her friend reached out to a well known makeup artist just to see what the pricing would be.

‘Her typical day rate is $25,000 starting out each travel day,’ she explained.

‘Glam for the wedding day: $50,000,’ the content creator announced, explaining it would be $125,000, without travel accommodations.

‘The hotel has to be pre-approved and you have to pay for the transportation for the makeup artist and their assistant,’ she added.

‘This is just so shocking to me,’ she said, before joking, ‘I will not be getting married.’

Beauty lovers were surprised by the high price, with one saying, ‘No makeup artist is worth that much,’ and another pointing out she required business class flights.

Others thought the MUA was ‘scamming.’

‘”This is Mary Phillips” I don’t care if it’s Jesus Christ. Who in their right mind is charging $100K for makeup?’ one commenter said.

However, not everyone mocked the high price point. Professional beauty artist Michaeline Becker, based in Los Angeles, shared a video defending the MUA’s high ask.

Michaeline said it’s ‘perfectly reasonable,’ because you’re paying for her ‘exclusivity, her time, and her celebrity.’

Mary is a ‘businesswoman, a tastemaker, she’s a business authority,’ Michaeline explained, adding that the starry MUA is committing to doing wedding makeup, she’s making herself unavailable for her celebrity clientele.

‘We should want people who are the best of their field… especially women to earn millions,’ she announced.

The MUA told her 20,000 followers they shouldn’t be surprised when a woman at the top charges like it, before comparing Mary to Beyoncé.

Despite her defense, some commenters weren’t convinced.

‘It isn’t at all reasonable, it is pretty dystopian that someone would need to pay 50k for a status when any makeup artist could do this wedding makeup look for 1-2k,’ one responded.

Another summed it up: ‘There’s just no makeup worth $100,000+.’
