The Brighton-based education partner for The Great Escape has been supporting the festival for two decades, and this year more than 10 per cent of artists performing at both The Great Escape and The Alternative Escape are either BIMM students or alumni.

The Great Escape takes place in Brighton  from May 13 to 15, showcasing over 450 emerging artists on its main line-up and a further 150 through The Alternative Escape.

Mel Thorton, associate director of creative futures at BIMM, said: “It’s an amazing feeling when I bump into former students at industry events and hear about their successes in the music business.

“Within the first six months after graduation, 62 per cent of our students find employment within the sector, and festivals like TGE are a great way to support students into practical work.”

This year, more than 100 BIMM students will also be working behind the scenes in roles such as artist liaison, stage management and production.

Among the performers are student band SLAG, playing three major stages and Leigh K, who has already joined a Universal Music writing camp.

Alumni include Lime Garden, Fliss, and BombayMami, all of whom are gaining significant industry attention.

Ms Thorton said: “In practice, the partnership means our students get genuine access to the festival industry, not just performance opportunities.

“They work alongside professional bookers, production teams and artist managers.

“Many of the contacts made at TGE have led directly to placements, internships and jobs.”

The festival has also supported the early careers of artists such as The Kooks, Tom Odell, George Ezra, Black Honey and James Bay.

This year, more than 53 current BIMM students and 20 alumni will perform across the weekend.

BIMM has also helped launch the careers of senior industry professionals, including Natasha Gregory of Mother Artists and songwriter Ed Drewett, whose credits include multiple UK top 10 singles.

Ed Drewett has written for artists including One Direction and Little Mix.

Other industry alumni include Via Culpan, who manages Aitch and Mist at NQ, senior sound engineer Chiara Ferracuti and Bex Redwood, manager of Wolf Alice.
