Art Recognition, a Zurich-based pioneer in AI art authentication, has secured a strategic investment of USD 1 million from Alpha Star, a leading Luxembourg-based investment fund focused on innovative companies in the art market. The funds and partnership fuel the company’s growth.

Leveraging its proprietary technology, powered by machine learning and computer vision techniques, Art Recognition provides objective, data driven analyses to support authentication decisions for paintings and drawings submitted by auction houses, collectors, galleries, and dealers worldwide. This replaces the conventional, costly and time-consuming approach of mandating art experts to study and verify the authenticity of an art piece.

Art Recognition uses two types of artificial neural networks – Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and a Vision Transformer with Shifted Windows (SWIN) – to capture an artist’s main characteristics and categorize artworks into “authentic” and “non-authentic.” This technology can also detect digital forgeries produced by a generative-AI. Founded in 2019, more than 500 art pieces from over 100 clients in 20 countries have been verified through Art Recognition.

The startup has secured USD 1 million strategic investment from the leading Luxembourg-based fund Alpha Star, which also became its anchor investor. The funding and partnership will accelerate Art Recognition’s growth and strengthen its position as a trusted technology partner for the art world.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alpha Star as a key partner on our journey”, said Carina Popovici, CEO and Founder of Art Recognition. “Their confidence in our technology and vision is a strong endorsement of the role AI will play in shaping the future of the art world.”

“We are excited to support Art Recognition in its mission to bring cutting-edge AI technology to art authentication,” said Alexandre Cadain, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Alpha Star. “We believe their innovative approach will become a cornerstone of integrity and progress in the art market.”
