Visiting Professor, University of California, the United States, renowned artist and culture promoter, Prince Tunde Odunlade, has called for greater investment in Nigeria’s art and creative sector, describing it as a vital tool for national development and global relevance.

Odunlade, who recalled using art to campaign for debt cancellation in Nigeria, stressed that art remains a powerful instrument for social and economic transformation.
“Art is the mirror that reflects our potency. It has been used in several ways to bring development, drive our creative economy, and build a virile nation. The story is unending. We need to invest more in art,” he said.

He made the call during a chat with The Guardian in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He urged the Federal Government to consult industry experts to make meaningful impact, while emphasising that only competent leaders should be appointed to oversee the new Ministry of Creative Economy.

According to him, Nigeria should position itself as a global hub where talents are nurtured, hosted, and showcased to the world.

Meanwhile, the Tunde Odunlade Gallery commended the Federal Government for creating the Ministry of Creative Economy, describing the move as a bold step toward giving the sector the recognition and institutional backing it deserves.
