UBS, Tribal Good and the Album & the Mixtape, were delighted to host a discussion and reception at Art Basel Miami Beach dedicated to honoring the legacy of Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop, the iconic genre that emerged as a beacon of storytelling, community, and empowerment, has transcended boundaries and inspired generations. Today, Hip-Hop continues to serve as a love story to this community, showcasing the powerful notion of belonging, family, and the immeasurable impact of culture. The agenda included:

The Impact of Hip-Hop on Art, Culture, and Community. A panel discussion with:

  • Julie M. Wenah, Founder and CEO, the Album & the Mixtape and Digital Civil Rights Lawyer (Moderator)
  • Datwon Thomas, Editor-In-Chief of VIBE and Vice President of Cultural Media for Penske Media
  • Lawrence “LAW” Parker, Contemporary abstract expressionist painter, and A&R and Manager at Roc Nation
  • Syreeta Gates, Founder of the Gates Preserve and Co-Founder of Most Incredible Studio

Culture at the Core: Black Narratives in TV, Film and Sport. A panel discussion with:

  • Anastasia Ali, VP, Enterprise Commercial Inclusion Strategy, The Walt Disney Company (Moderator)
  • Nzinga Blake, Executive Producer, Race & Culture, Disney Entertainment Television
  • Shola Ajewole, SVP Creative and Cultural Diversity, FX

The Legacy of Hip-Hop & Culture in Art. A fireside chat with:

  • Melinda Hightower, UBS, Head of Multicultural Investors Segment and Larry Ossei-Mensah, Co-Founder, ARTNOIR

The evening was hosted by Melinda Hightower, Head of the UBS Multicultural Investors Segment, Twanna Harris, Founder and CEO of Tribal Good, a social impact entertainment lab supporting diverse creators and Julie Wenah, Founder of the Album & the Mixtape, a multidisciplinary collective dedicated to fostering healing through the power of lyrics and prose.
