Henry Chukwugozie Ngoka, known by his stage name Mr Buoyant, blends his technical knowledge with creativity to produce his hit singles.

He says his background in engineering and digital marketing gives him a unique understanding of the production and branding process in music.

“Digital marketing, on the other hand, helped me understand audience engagement—how to craft a sound that resonates globally while staying true to my roots.”

The artist’s activism song “Bubu Is A Mumu,” released in 2021, called out the Nigerian government and was well received by critics.

In 2023, Mr Buoyant’s singles “Gen Z” and “James Bond” broke international ground and shaped his artistic identity.

He said: “Those tracks were a turning point for me, I must say, taking me from one point to another bigger point.”

According to Henry, his work earned him the nickname “007” of the Afrobeats industry due to his sleek, confident style in his music.

The 37-year-old artist is also the host of “Afrobeats – A Music Show with Mr Buoyant” on Southampton’s Voice FM.

He said: “It’s about cultural storytelling—giving African artists a platform while educating listeners on the genre’s roots.

“The diaspora in the UK has embraced it, and I love connecting established acts with emerging talent.”

His latest EP, BIG 007, combines Afrobeats, amapiano, and hip-hop to create motivational, energetic music.

Mr Buoyant said: “I wanted something energetic yet motivational—music that makes you move but also pushes you to strive for more.”

Switching careers and adapting to a new country presented challenges, but Mr Buoyant said his persistence and focus have driven him forward.

He is aiming to expand into YouTube podcasts and live events with a view to elevating Afrobeats as a global movement.

You can catch Mr Buoyant’s show on Voice FM Southampton every Tuesday, 10pm to 11pm, and Saturday, 8pm to 9pm.
