Môrwelion / The Sea Horizon, by acclaimed British artist Garry Fabian Miller, opens at Oriel y Parc on Saturday, July 12, and runs until spring 2026.

The free exhibition explores Mr Fabian Miller’s long fascination with the horizon and features work spanning his entire career, from his 1970s Sea Horizon photographs to later cameraless darkroom pieces.

Mr Fabian Miller said: “I’m fortunate that my earliest work as an artist, The Sea Horizon / Môrwelion, made in 1976/7 when I was 19, found its natural home in the collection of Amgueddfa Cymru in 2023, nearly 50 years later.

“I’m pleased that it is now being shown in conversation with my imagined Dark Room meditations on the horizon.

“This is happening in the far west of Wales, which like my home on Dartmoor, others think of as distant edge-places.

“However, I think they are the true centre of the world where meaning and purpose may be found.

“Here, art should roam wild and free, available to everyone.

“Oriel y Parc allows this opportunity to happen and I’m pleased to be exhibiting in such an unusual and precious place.”

The exhibition is presented in partnership with Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales and is divided between two gallery spaces.

It traces Mr Fabian Miller’s artistic journey from early photographic works to later cameraless images created using light, glass, water and plants.

To mark the opening, Oriel y Parc will host a special event from 11am on Saturday, July 12.

The event will include an artist talk at midday, featuring Mr Fabian Miller in conversation with Dr Bronwen Colquhoun, photography curator at Amgueddfa Cymru.

They will discuss the creative process, the influence of landscape and the enduring significance of the horizon.

Rachel Perkins, manager at Oriel y Parc, said: “Garry Fabian Miller’s work captures something essential about our relationship with the coast – its power to inspire, to calm, and to connect us with something greater.

“We’re delighted to bring Môrwelion / The Sea Horizons to Oriel y Parc and share these extraordinary images with our visitors.”
