Alison Patterson Marrs, from Wigton, starred in fourth episode and fourth heat of the eleventh series of the competition which aired on Sky Arts yesterday (Wednesday, February 4) and features presenter Stephen Mangan.

During the episode, Alison battled it out with her fellow competitors in Keswick as they looked to impress judges Kathleen Soriano, Tai Shan Schierenberg and Eva Langret with their work depicting Skiddaw.

The eight competing artists, including Cumbrian Alison were also joined by around 50 ‘wildcard’ artists who were hoping to claim a single wildcard spot in the series’ semi-final.

This was the second episode of the new series to be filmed in the Lake District, after the opening episode, and first heat of the competition, took place at Derwentwater.

During the episode, the eight competitors were given four hours to create their masterpieces which captured Skiddaw and in the midst of this, were treated by Stephen Mangan to some of Keswick’s famous Plumbread.

“Alison’s work is just full of vigour isn’t it?” Judge Kathleen Soriano said, when appraising the Cumbrian’s completed work.

“But I feel cold, it’s the blue which slightly confuses me but she has definitely got the drama, she has definitely got the energy, and she has definitely got the menace.”

Despite her efforts, Alison was not shortlisted by the judges, with Dan West from Teddington emerging as the heat winner.

He will now be in contention to take part in the Landscape Artist of the Year series 11 final which is set to take place at the Falkirk Wheel.

In this final, three artists will compete to win the grand prize, a £10,000 commission for the National Gallery of Ireland, to create a landscape of Croagh Patrick in County Mayo.
