Plein Air Painting

Paintdover

Dover, De. – People are painting the city in downtown Dover!  The 6th annual plein air painting competition is run by the Downtown Dover Partnership.

They work with the Biggs Museum of American Art and their Director of Marketing and Public Relations Kerri Lacey tells us Plein Air Artwork means the paintings were completed outside in fresh air.

She says Artists have been scattered since Tuesday in various locations around the city, creating unique works of art that showcase Dover’s charm. Their opening reception started tonight, where the artists will unveil their completed works that celebrate Dover’s artistic vibrancy.

“You don’t always stop and look around or stop and smell the roses as they say… When you see things through the artist’s eyes, they notice the landmarks in a different way. You see them from a different angle, through a different lens and it really creates a beautiful picture of the world around you, that you may otherwise miss or just sort of take for granted.”

These works will be on view in the museum from tonight until this Sunday, with a free painting demo on Saturday 11:30 am to 2 pm. If you wish to purchase any of the artwork, contact the Downtown Dover Partnership. The Biggs Museum is also free to the public and encourages the community to come and view local artistry Thursday through Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm. Feel free to visit their website for more information.
