Portland art exhibition to be unveiled for Dorset Arts Week

Art lovers, neighbours and collectors are being invited to go behind the green doors of St George’s Art Studios to embark on a ‘creative Odyssey’ and try their hand at artistic workshops.

Visitors will have the opportunity to not just see finished artworks but also step into the workspaces where art is made, wander through the studios, and interact with the makers themselves.

The exhibition will showcase the work of Lyn Kirkland, a prominent figure in the Portland art scene, known for her expertise in encaustic wax.

Kirkland draws inspiration from the rugged coastline of the island and her artwork spans far further than Dorset, being recently appointed to the board of International Encaustic Artists.

Caro Lester creates prints and images inspired by garden and seaside sketchbooks, with her vibrant and colourful work fusing drawing, collage, and print with text fragments, influenced from her background in graphic design.

Kate Arbon, an accomplished contemporary jeweller with over 30 years of experience, is known as the creative force behind the Sea and Silver Jewellery School.

Georgie Moore, a printmaker and mixed media artist, explores identity, nature and community through her artwork. Her art has earned international attention, featuring in exhibitions in New York and London.

Yollande Posthumus is a multimedia artist whose work often humorously explores the human experience in the 21st century. She is the co-founder of The Tiny Gallery Portland and has exhibited at prestigious galleries in London.

The event at the studio on Reforne Close in Easton and will run alongside Dorset Art Weeks, from Thursday, May 23 to Friday, June 7.

For those interested in trying to create their own art, a day of taster workshops is being held on Thursday May, 30 .

Dorset Arts Weeks is the largest visual arts event of its kind in Dorset, showcasing traditional and contemporary work from artists across the county.

Original art, prints, jewellery and a large selection and variety of merchandise will also be on offer.
