The second round of The Voice Season 28 continued on Oct. 11 featuring more Battles from the 12-artist teams that coaches Michael Bublé, Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, and Snoop Dogg assembled during the Blind Auditions. Assisting the coaches during rehearsals with their artists in this round are superstar guest advisors Lizzo for Team Snoop, Lewis Capaldi for Team Niall, Kelsea Ballerini for Team Bublé, and Nick Jonas for Team Reba.

For the first time ever in The Battles, the artists themselves chose their duet partners while the coach reserved the power to choose their song. Back again are the Steal and Save options for the coaches to use once each, to steal an artist from another team to their own and to save one of their own from elimination.

More from Gold Derby

In “The Battles Premiere,” Snoop saved Natalia Albertini and Michael successfully saved Trinity after the other three coaches attempted to steal her; Reba stole Austin Gilbert from Team Bublé.

Read on for our The Voice 28 recap of the “The Battles, Part 2” performances which aired Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 8 pm ET/PT on NBC.

Letter to Elise vs. Ryan Mitchell

Team Reba
Song: “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds
Nick’s advice: “It sounds technically very good, which I think speaks to your musicianship, but one thing maybe work on is just moving around … this should be a performance that’s entertaining, high energy, and fun for you guys and for the audience.”
Snoop’s comments: “Y’all look like a group. … Letter to Elise, I love the harmonies … I love that you guys know how to work as a unit… and Ryan, you are a superstar the way you move and work the crowd.”
Niall’s comments: “That song choice is very unexpected… Letter to Elise, that top harmony is nuts … and Ryan, you’ve just taken on another level.”
Michael’s comments: “Letter to Elise, I love how imaginative your interpretation was. … Ryan, I think your story is just awesome and it seems like you just keep getting better.”
Reba’s comments: “When you guys had fun, we had fun. Y’all did that because we were all four up here dancing along, clapping hands, having a great time.”
Winner: Ryan Mitchell
Result: Letter to Elise — eliminated

Sadie Dahl vs. Toni Lorene

Team Snoop
Song: “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna
Lizzo’s advice: “Rihanna’s pushing herself to the limit with emotion — I kinda am craving that on this performance … if [Sadie] can hold down the lead and [Toni] can hold the high harmony, that might make the song have a little bit more urgency.”
Niall’s comments: “Both of you got to show off what you’re both individually good at. Toni, some of the stuff that you were doin’ there was just bonkers. … Sadie, you were a major four-chair turn and I fought hard, not gonna lie.”
Reba’s comments: “Sadie, you’re a powerhouse. I love your vocals, your attitude on stage. Toni, the same.”
Michael’s comments: “Sadie, I felt like your start wasn’t as hot … and then it got stronger and stronger. Toni, you were on fire, you’re a technician.”
Snoop’s comments: “I was having a tough time when y’all picked each other … y’all made it very, very hard on me … I wanted excellence tonight.”
Winner: Toni Lorene
Result: Sadie Dahl — stolen by Niall

Lucas Beltran vs. Max Cooper III

Team Bublé
Song: “It’s a Beautiful Day” by Michael Bublé
Kelsea’s advice: “Max, I want you to be mindful of when you do leave that security of your piano to make sure that the pitch is the thing you’re thinking of more than your body.”
Snoop’s comments: “Y’all sang it with energy, with pizazz.”
Niall’s comments: “Your vocal range, Max, … is just off the scale. Lucas, you were brilliant.”
Reba’s comments: “Lucas your voice is so smooth. … Max, you were going into falsetto, but then you had that little break in your voice.”
Michael’s comments: “Lucas, you are 19 years old and there’s already richness in your voice. Max, I love that you’ve shown so much versatility.”
Winner: Max Cooper III
Result: Lucas Beltran — eliminated

Camille Tredoux vs. Kayleigh Clark

Team Niall
Song: “Cowboys Cry Too” by Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan
Lewis’s advice: “It’s alright to be nervous, just not good to be scared… remember the fact that you’re here because you’re great. You wouldn’t be here if you didn’t deserve to be here.”
Reba’s comments: “Both of you are great vocalists… Camille, I love your voice. It’s gotta little bit of Stevie Nicks at the end. … Kayleigh, you’re a cross between Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood with your vocals.”
Michael’s comments: “Camille, the fact that you did it and the way you did it is really just a testament to what a great artist you are. … Kayleigh, you have such a clear tone.”
Snoop’s comments: “Camille, you can really move your voice around different genres of music… Kayleigh, you came on strong and crystal clear.”
Niall’s comments: “Camille, you were absolutely brilliant, your tone really stands out. … Kayleigh, you sing it clean, so clear.”
Winner: Kayleigh Clark
Result: Camille Tredoux — eliminated

Alex Brown vs. Liam von Elbe

Team Niall
Song: “Linger” by The Cranberries
Niall’s comments: “Liam, you’re just great. That’s twice now you’ve put in two great performances and sung beautifully.”
Winner: Liam von Elbe
Result: Alex Brown — eliminated

Carly Harvey vs. Marty O’Reilly

Team Bublé
Song: “At This Moment” by Billy Vera and the Beaters
Kelsea’s advice: “I think on a song like this, the imperfections make it even better. When you start getting in your head about the technicality of a song like this, I think you lose the whole point. There’s a lot of technically perfect singers — I don’t really care. I want to listen to a song and believe it.”
Snoop’s comments: “Such an awesome performance, I feel like I need a beer… y’all voices are different, but this is the perfect song.”
Niall’s comments: “I thought it really worked – the blend of the two voices and how much of a powerhouse you are, Carly. It was gonna be a tall ask for Marty to get in there and he did such a good job. The way you told the story, Marty, is what worked for me.”
Reba’s comments: “I agree 100 percent. Carly, you’ve got a huge range, powerful voice. Marty, you’ve got that solid inside with that huskiness that I absolutely love.”
Michael’s comments: “Carly, I love the cool choices you made. I could tell you were a little nervous at the start … but as you started to take off down the runway, you just got stronger and more confident. Marty, you do what you do and I feel it’s just so different and so amazing.”
Winner: Marty O’Reilly
Result: Carly Harvey — eliminated

Aubrey Nicole vs. Cori Kennedy

Team Reba
Song: “Something Bad” by Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert
Nick’s advice: “I think it’s gonna serve you better in this performance to just focus on carrying the feeling of the song. I think the less enunciated, the better. Sometimes the cool factor can slip away if we get too technical and crisp.”
Michael’s comments: “Aubrey, you crushed. Cori, what the hell? That was so awesome.”
Snoop’s comments: “Y’all made something bad, something good. … I was over here singing the record, I thought I was Carrie Underwood. … For the sake of the battle, I would choose Cori.”
Niall’s comments: “That was a real battle — that’s how you do it … can still hear the two voices individually. … Cori, you were performing the hell out of it. … Aubrey, flawless. You were on fire.”
Reba’s comments: “Such powerful voices and that’s always really scary when two of the greatest singers pair up … but I totally enjoyed what you gals put together.”
Winner: Cori Kennedy
Result: Aubrey Nicole — saved by Reba (Snoop attempted to steal)

The Updated Teams:

TEAM BUBLÉ: Aarik Duncan, Elias Gomez, Jazz McKenzie, Marty O’Reilly, Max Chambers, Max Cooper III, Rob Cole, Teo Ramdel, Trinity
