The El Paso County Commissioners Court on Monday, Oct. 21, honored Borderland artists ahead of an art exhibition Friday, Oct. 25.

The National Fine Art Appreciation Day exhibition will be from 6 to 11 p.m. at Mystique Desert Studio, 3900 Rosa Ave., Suite B, in Central El Paso, across from Lincoln Park.

The free exhibition will be up through Nov. 24.

In their proclamation Monday, the El Paso County Commissioners Court proclaimed Oct. 25 “as National Fine Art Appreciation Day in El Paso County, Texas, encouraging all residents to explore, support and celebrate the fine arts that contribute to the identity and validity of our community.”

It encourages residents “to engage with and support local artists, galleries, and cultural events.“

Mystic Desert Studio art gallery owners Tamara and Gabriel Marquez are hosting the exhibition.

The Commissioners Court’s proclamation said the exhibition features “artists who are making a difference in the El Paso region and beyond the landscape. The exhibition is El Paso themed and will feature 14 local artists that includes the following painters: Bianca Mireles, Carmen Navar, Christin Apodaca, Citlali Delgado, Diego Martinez, Francisco Delgado, Gabriel Marquez, Hal Marcus, Jason Lucero, Lilian Sandoval, Moi Garcia, Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Gabaldon and Voodoo.”

The resolution was signed by Precinct 1 Commissioner Carlos Leon, Precinct 2 Commissioner David S. Stout, Precinct 3 Commissioner Iliana Holguin, Precinct 4 Commissioner Sergio Coronado and County Judge Ricardo Samaniego.

El Paso artist Gabriel Marquez paints a mural with a desert theme on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, outside his Mystic Desert Studio in South-Central El Paso.

In a social media post, Diego “Robot” Martinez said that “we were discussing the difficulties of being an artist, the importance of community, and how blessed we were to paint in our backyard of El Paso.“

The Bangin’ Birria food truck will be on hand. Old Sheepdog Brewery is next door. The brewery is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, noon to midnight Friday and Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. It is closed Monday.

Mystic Desert Studio is open from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, as well as 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Across the street from the studio and brewery at 3915 Rosa Ave. is Paradox Immersive Art, a gallery led by Laura Turón. The gallery is open Friday and Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets to Paradox Immersive Art are $10.
