A unique exhibition in Craven County is captivating art enthusiasts with its vibrant colors and majestic themes. Titled “Eve’s Journey: Stepping on the Snake,” the exhibit features artwork created from fabric and thread by fiber artist Naida Koraly.

Koraly said her collection focuses on history as told through the eyes of women. The exhibit includes 38 originally designed and stitched fabric artworks, each depicting women from different countries, cultures, and religions.

“It’s the journey of women throughout history, and all different kinds of women with all different kinds of stories,” Koraly said. She added, “My theory about life is – a whole lot of different pieces, but when you put it together it’s something beautiful.”

Jonathan Burger, executive director of the Craven Arts Council, praised the exhibit for highlighting textiles as part of the fine art world. “I think it’s a really special exhibit because it helps show that textiles are a part of the fine art world. For a long time, crafts and things like that were excluded so it’s good for us to highlight craft as art,” Burger said.

“Eve’s Journey” is on display in the main gallery at the Bank of the Arts on Middle Street in New Bern. An opening reception will be held during the Art Walk on November 8. The exhibit will run through the end of December.
