Summary

  • Faye Toogood’s “Lucid Dream” furniture collection is on view until June at The Future Perfect and TIWA Select’s New York galleries.
  • The collection includes Toogood’s hand-painted furniture pieces, rooted in an experimental process of intuitive artmaking.

Just ahead of the NYCxDesign festival, British designer Faye Toogood has unveiled her latest collection, titled “Lucid Dream,” at two innovative NY galleries. From now until June 21, visitors of The Future Perfect‘s West Village townhouse and TIWA Select‘s Tribeca studio can see the collection in person, offering a delve into Toogood’s experimental approach.

Each of Toogood’s furniture pieces is handmade by small-scale fabricators and artisans, and finished with Toogood’s artwork at her London studio. The poetic line utilizes pieces, including the Roly Poly Dining Table set and the Gummy furniture line, as a foundation and builds upon them with intuitive painted motifs.

David Alhadeff of Future Perfect described “Lucid Dream” as feeling like “stepping into a moody evening with Faye.” Bursting with creative energy and expressive color, the sculptural furniture collection is adorned by haphazard paint strokes and shapes, as demonstrated in The Future Perfect’s living space.

However, at the TIWA gallery, Toogood leans into the nocturnal inspirations of “Lucid Dream,” showcasing crumpled lighting crafted from Japanese paper and painted with linear improvisations by the designer. On the collection, TIWA founder Alex Tieghi-Walker said he felt that Lucid Dream “really speaks to the power of handmade, one-off design.” “Faye is really one of the few designers out there who could create a body of work that bridges two galleries with radical approaches to what design and craft mean today,” he continued.
