Hillsdale College fine arts events set for August, September: What to know

Hillsdale College will host a series of fine arts events in August and September. The events are open to the public, with some requiring ticket reservations, according to a community announcement.

The lineup includes art exhibits, faculty recitals and performances by guest artists. Here’s a breakdown:

Faculty Recital on Aug. 28

7:30 p.m. in Conrad Recital Hall, located in the Howard Music Building. Performers include Ji Hyun Kim on violin and cello, Jaclyn Burke on violin, Darren Chan on viola and David Peshlakai on cello. The quartet will present works by Franz Schubert, including Quartettsatz and the Cello Quintet in C Major.

French Baroque Recital on Aug. 30

2 p.m. Aug. 30 in Christ Chapel. Kátia Sherman will play recorders, Lara Turner will perform on the viola da gamba and Daniel Tacke will play the harpsichord. The recital will feature solo and chamber works from the French baroque repertoire.

Albin Veselka Art Exhibit Opens Sept. 5

6 p.m. Sept. 5 in the Daughtrey Art Gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building. Veselka, who received his BFA from Brigham Young University Idaho in 2006, has been recognized for his contributions to representational art. The exhibit will be on display through Oct. 12.

Brahms Piano Recital on Sept. 6

7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 in McNamara Rehearsal Hall, also in the Howard Music Building. The recital from Daniel Kuehler will feature late piano masterpieces by Johannes Brahms.

Bálint Karosi Guest Organ Recital on Sept. 16

7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in Christ Chapel. Hungary native Bálint Karosi is known for creative programming and has performed across Europe, North America and East Asia. He’s the director of music at First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia.

Musical Forum Lecture by Sheryl Lott on Sept. 19

12:30-2:30 p.m. Sept. 19. Sheryl Lott will give a lecture as part of the Musical Forum Lecture Series, focused on problem-solving using cognitive science. The lecture will be followed by a masterclass featuring students performing short pieces of music.

Ballet Hartford Performance on Sept. 20

7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in Markel Auditorium, located in the Fine Arts Building. The performance will include Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos and excerpts from “The Sleeping Beauty.” Ticket reservations are required for this event.

Homecoming Choir Reunion Concert on Sept. 27

12 p.m. Sept. 27 in Christ Chapel. Alumni will join the College Choir and Chamber Choir for a performance of sacred and secular choral compositions.
