Snow College’s Fine Arts Division and the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts are filling October with music, theater, and art that promises to inspire, entertain, and bring the community together. With concerts, plays, and special events happening nearly every week, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Music to inspire and delight
The month kicks off with a special treat: “Soul of a Hummingbird,” a concert by Snow College’s own Trent Hanna, on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Eccles Center Jorgensen Concert Hall. Audiences will experience an evening of original music that captures the beauty and wonder of the world around us. Admission is free.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m., the Jorgensen Concert Hall will fill with the harmonies of “Light – A Choir Concert,” directed by Michael Huff. This inspiring night of choral music will uplift audiences with powerful melodies. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors.
Fans of piano music won’t want to miss the Jeanne Hourez Piano Recital on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Eccles Center Larsen Recital Hall. The world-traveled pianist promises an evening of artistry and brilliance. Admission is free.
On Sunday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m., the spotlight shifts to strings with “String-a-Palooza” — a collaborative orchestra concert featuring Snow College musicians alongside talented students from local high schools, including Gunnison Valley, Manti, Juab, North Sanpete and Wasatch Academy. This special event is free to the public.
The month’s music lineup continues with the Jazz Big Band with Spotlight Concert on Monday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Jorgensen Concert Hall. Audiences can expect an energetic double feature, showcasing the Jazz Big Band under the direction of acclaimed trombonist Sarah Morrow and the dynamic vocal group Spotlight, directed by Brian Stucki and Jen Madsen. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors.
Theater with humor and heart
The Snow College Theatre Department presents “Puffs, or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” — a fast-paced, hilarious parody that tells the story of the underdog house at a famous wizarding school. Performances run Oct. 23-25 and 30-31, with a final show on Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday matinees will be held on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors.
Fans of comedy can also catch the popular improv group “Badgers in a Bathtub” on select Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. in the Eccles Center Black Box Theater. Formerly known as L.T.I., this long-running Snow College improv team offers spontaneous, laugh-out-loud performances inspired by audience suggestions. Tickets are just $1 at the door, and a portion of proceeds supports scholarships for performing arts students.
Art on display
In addition to the lively schedule of performances, visual art lovers can visit ongoing art exhibits at The Annex in the Eccles Center, the Snow College Art Gallery in the Humanities Building, and Altspace, also located in the Humanities Building.
