RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Artists of the Plains Art Show is the largest and longest-running fine arts event in South Dakota. It was originally launched in Rapid City before moving to Sioux Falls forty-two years ago.

Bringing the art show back to Rapid City will foster growth and provide greater exposure for artists from both West River and East River.

The opportunities this art show offers the 24 artists showcasing their work are invaluable for both artists and attendees.

” Such a good opportunity for people to interact with the artists especially being that we bring a number of artists from not around the Black Hills area out to the Hills to sell their artwork ,” said Kamryn Miller, Education Assistant at the Center for Western Studies.

Having the chance to speak with artists one-on-one is a vital aspect of the experience, allowing the community to learn what inspires the artists.

“Right now it’s a lot of the wildlife, like I said. I also ride my bike the Mickelson and see so much beauty there, the wildflowers. I do paintings of those. You know, there’s the pronghorns, antelopes, I love those, the burrowing owls, and just so many things that are unique to this area,” said Susan Drey, Artist .

The 43rd Annual Artists of the Plains Art Show will be held October 25 through 27, at The Dahl Arts Center in downtown Rapid City. Admission is free.
